Diehl Aerosystems

Research cooperation to inject new impetus into the aerospace industry

Diehl Aerosystems is a member of the new Center of Applied Aeronautical Research (ZAL) Association and has taken first occupancy of the premises at the ZAL TechCenter in Hamburg-Finkenwerder. At the opening ceremony on March 7, Diehl Aerosystems’ CEO Rainer von Borstel emphasized the advantages the research institute would have for the company. First and foremost, this close interlinking with partners from both the industry and the world of science will enable application-oriented research and a comprehensive view of the technological foci. Furthermore, the objective is a faster industrialization of new technologies within the industry.

In the future, up to 16 Diehl Aerosystems developers will be based at ZAL in Hamburg. The institute provides Diehl Aerosystems with a dedicated platform for further strengthening its own innovation and core competencies, and to continue to promote targeted product development in an environment centered around integration and industrialization.

At ZAL, Diehl Aerosystems will be housed under the same roof as industry giants Airbus and Lufthansa Technik, and in the future will develop targeted new technologies for the aerospace industry. The focal points here will include aircraft cabin concepts and systems, and highly specialized test infrastructures as well as covering final assembly issues. Diehl will also participate in joint research in the area of fuel cell technology with, among others, its concept of an energy self-sufficient cabin (DACAPO®).
